Preserving Your Brass Artefacts

Brass is an organic, noble alloy that interacts subtly with ambient air. Understanding its natural patina helps you maintain either a mirror-like shine or a rich, antique depth.

1. Dry Microfibre Dusting

Gently wipe your sculptures, urli bowls, and planters once or twice a week with a clean, dry, lint-free microfibre cloth. This removes ambient dust and natural skin oils without scratching fine hand-chased details.

2. Keep Dry & Ventilated

Moisture accelerates oxidation. Ensure brass pieces remain dry. If using an Urli bowl with floating flowers and water, empty and dry thoroughly every 2–3 days to prevent mineral water ring deposits.

3. Avoid Acidic Cleaners

Never use harsh steel wool scrubbers, abrasive scouring powders, bleach, or corrosive tamarind pastes on lacquered pieces. These peel the clear protective seal and cause blotchy discolouration.

4. Restoring High Shine

For unlacquered pieces requiring a brilliant golden shine, apply a small dab of specialized non-abrasive brass polish cream with a cotton rag. Buff gently along the metal grain, then wipe clean.

5. Outdoor Placement

Arka Design brass is solid and heavy, but direct exposure to harsh sun and seasonal rains will naturally age the finish into an antique verdigris patina. Covered patios and shaded entrances are ideal.

6. Proper Storage

When storing pieces during moves or renovations, wrap individually in soft acid-free tissue paper and soft cotton cloth. Avoid wrapping directly in plastic bubble wrap against the brass surface.
